Thursday December 13th at 5 pm our Film Discussion group will be watching Sydney Pollack’s 1969 film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?
During the Great Depression the lives of a disparate group of people intertwine as they enter a dance marathon to win a prize of 1,500 silver dollars.
Great filmmaking, performances, and story combine to make what sounds like a light concept into a quite grueling film with a lot to say about human desperation. The movie received 9 Academy Award nominations making it the most nominated film in Oscar history to not receive a nomination for Best Picture.
The MPAA gave this film a PG rating, but this is not a movie for children.
There will be complimentary popcorn and filtered water available.
