The Department of Public Works will begin the installation of drainage pipe and structures on Timber Drive, Thomas Drive, and Sumner Drive. Following the installation of the drainage improvements, the Department of Public Works will then reclaim and resurface these three roads. The reclamation and resurfacing portions of the project are explained below and is scheduled for early summer.
PHASE 1: A contractor hired by the Town will grind and grade the roadway in preparation of new asphalt. This is the reclamation portion of the project.
PHASE 2: After final grading is complete, a contractor hired by the Town will apply two new layers of asphalt to the street surface.
PHASE 3: Any required curbing will be installed and driveway aprons will be repaired or installed, as required. We will place topsoil in any disturbed lawn areas and use seed to re-establish any turf. This portion of the work will occur a few weeks after the paving is complete.
The Department would like to remind all property owners that a portion of the land between the privately owned building and the street’s paved surface is Town property, or right of way. The paved surface of a roadway does not define the limit of Town property. The Town-owned road layout includes the paved roadway surface and adjacent unpaved areas with varying width based on the property line location on either side of the paved surface. In most cases, private lawns extend onto this unpaved Town property. During construction, this Town-owned property is likely to be disturbed.
At the completion of the construction contract, the Department will loam and seed damaged lawns, restore mailboxes, and repair driveway aprons on the Town-owned right of way. The Town cannot be responsible for any damage to plantings, bulbs, flowers, shrubbery, sprinkler systems, etc., located on Town property. Prior to the start of construction, you may wish to verify the extent of your property line and relocate any such objects that are located on Town property along the edge of the road and could be damaged during construction. Further, the Town assumes no responsibility for the disruption, disturbance or severing of cellar drains, perimeter drains, or under drains located within Town property or easements. If you are aware of such a private accommodation, we request you provide an accurate location of the drain to the Department of Public Works.
We ask that you do not park on the road from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, during this effort. You will always have access to your driveway. However, when the equipment is directly in front of your driveway, access may be restricted for a few minutes. As with any road project, construction may require temporary detours and/or minor traffic delays. We ask for your patience and cooperation during this period and please drive with caution.
