Oscar Movies at the Library

The Mansfield Public Library’s monthly Film Discussion group will have a special event Monday February 26th through Friday March 2nd. Each day of that week the library will be showing a different film nominated for this year’s Academy Awards in the library’s program room starting at 2:00 pm. Titles will include best picture nominees Dunkirk and Get Out.

Films scheduled may change based on availiblity.

There will be no charge for anyone attending this event.

Seating may become limited.

Film Schedule:

Monday, February 26th at 2 pm.

Dunkirk – Nominated for best picture, directing, score, and most technical categories. Christopher Nolan’s tense visual WWII film set in May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found.

Tuesday, February 27th at 2 pm.

Darkest Hour – Nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Actor, and Makeup. Joe Wright’s Winston Churchill biopic follows the British Prime Minister during the early days of World War II with the fate of Britain in his hands. Churchill must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.

Wednesday, February 28th at 2 pm.


Thursday, March 1st at 2 pm. 

Get Out – Nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, and Directing. Jordan Peele’s surreal thriller channels anxieties and fears connected to race relations into the story of a young African-American on a weekend trip to meet with his white girlfriend’s parents for a weekend in their secluded estate in the woods, but before long, the friendly and polite ambiance will give way to a nightmare.
