Concerned about the state of the planet?
Let’s watch some trashy movies and discuss
what we can do to save the Earth.
Here’s what we will be watching:
No Impact Man Tuesday, April 16, 7pm – Follow the Manhattan-based Beavan family as they abandon their high consumption 5th Avenue lifestyle and try to live a year while making no net environmental impact.
Just Eat It Tuesday, May 28, 7pm – We all love food. As a society, we devour countless cooking shows, culinary magazines and foodie blogs. So how could we possibly be throwing nearly 50% of it in the trash? Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on discarded food. What they find is truly shocking.
Waste Land 2010 Saturday, June 15, 4:30pm – Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho. On the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Jardim Gramacho is where men and women sift through garbage for a living. Artist Vik Muniz produces portraits of the workers and learns about their lives.
