Registration Opens in Mansfield for Pre-K and Kindergarten for 2025/2026

Mansfield, CT   April 1, 2025 – Mansfield Public Schools is accepting applications for Mansfield resident families interested in enrolling their children for Kindergarten, and to enter the lottery for Pre-Kindergarten in the district for the 2025/26 school year.

Pre-Kindergarten

For the first time, Mansfield Elementary School will be offering full-day Pre-Kindergarten for its classrooms.  To be eligible for Pre-K, students must be four years old by September 1, 2025.  This full day program will provide all enrolled Pre-K students with enriched learning experiences that support social-emotional growth and school readiness, and transportation is provided.  The program also works in collaboration with Birth-to-Three services in order to transition students to the Pre-K program if recommended by the Planning and Placement Team (PPT).

Mansfield families may register to be enrolled in a lottery for open seats. The link to enroll in the Pre-K lottery is available online through the ENROLL button on the district’s website: www.mansfieldct.gov/mps

Registrations for the Pre-K lottery are accepted April 1 through May 25.  Final selections will be announced by Monday, June 2, 2025.

Mansfield Elementary School Principal Kate McKoy presented this new full-day proposal to the Board of Education in early March, after piloting a full-day Pre-K program in two of their three MES classrooms this year.  “Full Day Pre-K aligns with our belief in nurturing the academic, social, and emotional growth of all learners from the start. By providing a strong foundation in a play-based, enriching environment, we set students up for long-term success in Mansfield’s schools,” she said.

Kindergarten

Children who will be age 5 by September 1, 2025 are eligible to register for Kindergarten at Mansfield Elementary School.  The preregistration form is available online through the ENROLL button the district’s website:  www.mansfieldct.gov/mps.  Families with children already attending the Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program at Mansfield Elementary School do not need to register them again for Kindergarten.

This is the second year in Connecticut with the new age of eligibility ensures students are age 5 by September 1 when school starts.   “Our experience just this past year alone proves that this was a sensible change from the Connecticut State Department of Education,” says Principal Kate McKoy.  “Five year olds are much better prepared, socially, emotionally, and developmentally to begin Kindergarten.  It’s better for these young students in the long run.  On the other end of their school career, it’s better to be 18 entering college.”

Families with questions should reach out directly to the Mansfield Elementary School office at 860.423.1611.
