Mansfield Middle School (MMS) hosted its closing ceremony on June 13, 2024 honoring the 121 Grade 8 students who completed their middle school years and are prepared to begin high school. The promotion ceremony was held at the Mansfield Middle School Patricia Tuite Auditorium.
A number of Special Awards were presented by the Principal Larry Barlow and Assistant Principal Danielle Vliet to students who demonstrated exemplary achievement at MMS.
The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Student Leadership Award is given annually to two students who demonstrate concern for others, a willingness to take on challenges, and the ability to honor a commitment. Izzy Caddy and Avin Perera are recipients this year, and were also acknowledged at the Board of Education Meeting in early June.
Connecticut Association of Schools Scholar Leader Award winners demonstrate leadership both inside and outside of the classroom, and show outstanding scholarship by achieving at a high level throughout their middle school years. Charlotte Fuerst and Sebastian Kaufman have consistently exemplified desirable qualities of personality, character, and integrity and were presented with this award. Their names have been included on a permanent plaque that hangs in the office of the school.
The Mansfield Middle School Citizenship Award recognizes students who exemplify the MMS habits of character and service. The students selected this year include Yasameen Albayati, Esme Itsou, Daniel Majkut, and Gilad Stein.
The Mansfield Middle School Peer Leadership Award is given to students who exemplify sensitivity, caring, and courtesy in relations with others. This year’s award was earned by Ejon Chen and Morgan Mackenzie.
The Betty Robinson / Friends of Mansfield Hollow organization recognizes two students who demonstrate a love of the outdoors and passion for preserving nature for future generations. Sophie Peters and Sebastian Lazeski were awarded this prize.
Superintendent Peter Dart personally presented The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents Award to Raha Esmaili Zaghi and Avery Hancock-Braun. This award is based on community service, academic prowess, leadership and service to the school community.
Principal Barlow and Assistant Principal Vliet acknowledged students who participated in 63 different activity or academic areas. These areas including extra curricular activities after school, sports, music, academic subjects, and special events and initiatives. An impressive number of students—60 of the 121—were recognized as recipients of the President’s Award for Educational Excellence by achieving 3.5 grade point average throughout middle school grades 5 to 8. Additionally, 62 students earned the American Citizenship Awards for participation in school or community service, showing a positive attitude toward classmates, and understanding civic responsibility while exhibiting exemplary work habits and strength of character.
