For ten years, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy has sponsored an essay contest to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.Noah -Murphy MLK

Congratulations to  MMS Grade 8 student Noah Chieffo who won the middle school division among entries from the Second Congressional District.  There were more than 1000 entries submitted in that division.

Noah chose to write about his experience as a student leader in working to help others.

Noah is the youngest Mansfield resident to attend the Town Manager's Mansfield Local Government Academy, a 12-week course on the operations and responsibilities of local government in serving residents' needs and managing municipal resources.

Noah cited his experience in his essay and how he saw the need for support in fundraising for the Human Services Department.

He writes, "Overall, Dr. King and all his supporters have influenced me and my understanding of how I can make an impact in many ways. Through my service in the Student Council, and how I learned to benefit my community, Dr. King and all who believed in his dream have served as a strong influence and role model on me and my work. Dr. King’s work and his teachings have meant so much to me-- and the world.

Accompanied by his family and Principal Larry Barlow, Noah attended the celebration ceremony on March 21 to receive his award.
