Mansfield Advocates for Children

Who we are and what we do:

Our Mission: All Mansfield Children ages birth through 8 years old are healthy, successful learners, and their families are connected to the community.

Mansfield Advocates for Children (MAC) is an early Childhood Collaborative invested in the well-being of children from birth to 8 in Mansfield. MAC also proudly serves as an advisory council to the Mansfield Town Council on issues relating to education, health and the safety of young children. MAC also acts as the Mansfield School Readiness Council, which oversees and implements guidelines for the School Readiness program. This includes making recommendations related to School Readiness funding, reviewing grant applications, fostering partnerships between area agencies and providers, evaluating the effectiveness of School Readiness programs, identifying resources available to children and families, facilitating the delivery of those services, and encouraging public participation.

School Readiness is a state-funded initiative administered by the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) that provides access to quality educational programs for children ages 3 and 4. The School Readiness spaces operate on a sliding fee scale, and enrolled families are required to pay a weekly fee that is determined by the OEC. There are four quality School Readiness centers in Mansfield that provide part day, full day or school day opportunities for preschool aged children. If you are interested in filling out an application for your child, please stop by the Youth Services Office, or print and fill out the online application. All applications are to be returned to the Early Childhood Services Coordinator.

MAC meets October through June, with the exception of November or January. Please email ysb@mansfieldct.org for the meeting link and passcode, or look online for the posted agenda and meeting minutes.  Previous recordings of MAC meetings can be found on the Mansfield Connecticut Streaming Channel on YouTube.

Housing and Homeless Resources

MAC was recently joined by Carl Asikainen from the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness. Carl shared information on programs and resources for individuals and families facing a housing crisis. If you are homeless, or on the verge of being homeless, the best thing to do is call 2-1-1. You can also reach out to Mansfield Youth Services and we can help connect you with information and resources. Here are some websites that can be helpful.
